On my last day off I made arrangements to go visit LyraCole (Seattle). I only had two buses to take and it was a pretty pleasant trip. I had to pass through some areas in down town Seattle that had recently (ongoing?) been experiencing problems. Specifically the 3rd and Pine area. About a month ago now a bus driver got shot and really there are always unbalanced (crazy) people wandering around that area. For some reason there seems to be more out of control people in that part of town.
Anyways as we were exiting the area the bus stopped to pick up a few more passengers and this older black guy was giving some light shit to the bus driver about having to look for his bus pass and the bus driver to his credit was rolling with it nicely and not being a dick back. It took a little bit and the guy was making all kinds of remarks about how he was so slow because he was descended from slaves and slaves were slow “back in the day” so it should be no surprise that he was so slow and the bus driver said it wasn’t a problem that he could wait. People started getting restless and finally the guy found his pass showed the driver and went on his way. As soon as he started towards the back a policeman in full gear stepped just inside the bus and asked the driver if everything was alright. The bus driver said, “Yeah. Sometimes people have a bad day and take it out on you – you can’t take it personally.” The police officer said, “Well I was trying to keep eye contact with you and waiting for you to just give a sign and I would step in and take care of this.” The bus driver thanked him and said it wasn’t needed though he appreciated it and the bus got a final look over by the cop and then we were on our way.
I was of two minds about it. One I felt that the black guy wasn’t malicious or ever super dick like – at least he wasn’t acting super aggressive. Maybe passive aggressive but didn’t seem to be seriously harmful. He mostly came off cranky old and slow. I think that’s why the bus driver didn’t freak out on him. The slave commentary was a bit eye rolling but what’evs – people are going to say what ever they feel justified in saying. So in continuing the one side I was glad that things went down how they did and the guy seemed ok once he got to his seat and sat down. He even started chatting it up with other bus passengers that he knew. It was also nice to know that the cop was there encase this guy was seriously CRAZY PANTS.
The other part of me was sorta apprehensive that we even needed police force…for a bus ride. Protection from the unbalanced population. It was a bit unnerving especially with just having someone shot because of a situation similar to what went down. THANK YOU Black Dude for just being cranky not crazy. Oi Veh.
Finally made it to Queen Anne and Starbucks where I met up with LyraCole. I had brought my purple covered tablet and was reading a book on it. I then tried (again) to do updates and was still getting “File Invalid” messages. *SIGH* I’ve had this tablet for almost a year (got it for my birthday last year from Sean) and every time I tried doing updates it just wouldn’t happen. LyraCole sat down and showed me her new phone (I don’t remember the name of it right now but it’s a SONY) it is VERY SHINY. It came purple and had a purple case and she also took out her 10 inch KINDLE. HOLY CRAP 10 inches looks so BIG! The thing was HUGE and also had a purple cover. I said “OMG That thing looks like it gave birth to my tablet!” we started laughing and then geeked out over our purple electronics. Conversation turned to my tablet and I explained what had been happening. LyraCole and I realized I was only trying to update while I was out in public. She told me everything looked ok with the tablet and that maybe my wifi connections haven’t been strong enough. So we went to her house.
LyraCole has the mother of all internet access power *HAHA* we sat down on the couch and she plopped my tablet in her lap and in seconds it was updating all the software – all of the EVERYTHING. I patted it and said “Don’t worry Auntie Lyra has you now.” Then we talked about lots of etsy and crafting stuff and I got a tutorial in Etsy trading. I think my tablet kept updating for at least two hours. It was funny but embarrassing. A years worth of updating. My tablet interface looks SO different and it works SO much better. I’m a pretty big dork for not making the connection. A year and I never thought to try updating the thing from home. THE HELLS?
I felt really tired yesterday. I was yawning and ready to pass out by 4pm but I still wanted to visit and so I hung in there and we eventually made our way back to the outside and parted ways around 6ish. Maybe 7ish I can’t remember Anyways I woke up today still feeling tired but ok for the most part. Except my dry throat. NO BUENO. I went for a short trip out with my Mom and by 3ish headed home. Still tired as hell and still dry of throat. PLEASE be my allergies. UGH. I made a stop by the game store and picked up more MAGIC THE GATHERING cards and came home and have been taking it easy ever since. I’m thinking of one of my managers that sounded sick and was hovering around me all day Saturday and another coworker who was coughing all day and still another who in the lunch room was putting on a medical face mask for other peoples benefit because she was so sick. o_O SERIOUSLY? I’m either getting sick or I’m not. I can’t tell at this point and I sort other peoples used clothes so it could even have come from that even though I use gloves. I don’t know all I know is that I’m still low on energy and if I end up getting sick it’s gonna be a no bueno situation. I *hate* being sick. I got some cough drops though and that helps with the dry thing. So I’m crossing my fingers. Also I shouldn’t talk too much crap because I went out with mom today. So Mom if I end up sick and you catch it from me you can smack me. I wasn’t thinking.
Now I must go as it’s scavenger nite for dinner and I’m actually hungry a little bit.
Nite nite and LyraCole thank you for yesterday and Mom for today
